reframed
pathfinder fair
throughout april - june twenty one participants ranging in age from 20 to 70 have gathered each Tuesday evening to be inspired, empowered and equipped to teach, preach and give bible studies. This practical discipleship training event required participants to complete homework assignments and to plan and deliver a sermon which was critiqued by fellow participants. The whole idea behind Reframed was for attendees to grow spiritually and to be equipped to make a difference in the local church. topics covered included reading your Bible with new eyes, using verbal and non-verbalcues when speaking and do's and don'ts when giving Bible studies.
a catalyst for
leadership
march 21 saw through another day of fun for the annual pathfinder fair. starting bright and early at the new location of smithfield, about 600 pathfinders and staff participated and supported their teams as they competed in 10 different events. the Living Water themed fair required Pathfinders to build bush showers, catapults with flying sponges and water slides to name a few.
food stalls were also big buisness as pathfinders and spectators helped support clubs fundraising whilst watching the events. everything from roti and ice cream, wedges and burgers were on the menu.
pathfinder clubs were also awarded penants for there hard work in preparing and participating on the day.
catalyst youth leadership training was an opportunity to hear, empower and resource youth leaders and their teams. it was a time of sharing issues that they are facing, like keeping young people motivated for God, how to win back those who have left and how to teach our truths. one young person spoke about how they were thankful for being inspired to be a better leader. is our prayer is that God will bless those in youth ministry in the local church.
white water weekend continued...
kayaking down rapids is nothing like canoning on flat water. something which didn't take to long to figure out, especially after the second underwater upside down bail out. so although i am now somewhat bruised and battered (although everyone else seemed to fair ok), i had an awesome time. the bi annual white water kayaking weekend was held on the 26 til 28 of february with about 20 young adults camping and paddling the rapids at barrington tops, near glouster. the weekend was enjoyed by all with awesome weather (ie not to cold) and a great camp site adding to the sunday day of fun battling the river. the water level was perfect for beginers being neither to high or so low that your scrapping down the rapids. mountians of marshmellows were consumed and plenty of paddles (often mine) chased down the river, all by the time we started to get ready to go home. all i can say is what an awesome way to spend a weekend in God's beautiful nature and with friends to fellowship with. the next white water weekend is not schedualed until the warmer months return, october 29-31. by steph arnold, youth department assistant and white water kayaking weekend participant!
master guide training
first aid success!
on the 20th of february, about 40 pathfinders and pathfinder staff attended the leadership training day. "the master guide program is the first step to becoming a staff memeber of pathfinders and it was encouraging to see so many young people taking a stand within pathfinder and ultimately church leadership" said associate youth director pr john wells.
participants looked at topics such as camping, resourcing, group skills teaching, communications and the fundamentals of club leadership. personal and spiritual growth are also important focuses for the master guide training with pathfinders learning about church history, the fundamental beliefs and developing their own personal spiritual growth.
on the 7th and 14th of february, 24 pathfinders, adventurers and youth leaders attended training for the Red Cross Senior First Aid Certification. The students learnt how to bandage, access and manage emergency situations as well as receiving their certification in CPR. This training is extremely important for our leaders to have due to the nature of many pathfinder, adventurer and youth activiites.
mixing it up!
this years pathfinder training event rebranded - REMIX - was a hugh success with many pathfinder leaders benefiting from the 18+ practical workshops run by the district directors and the youth department.
about 60 pathfinder leaders and staff from the 30 clubs in sydney, were present for the sabbath afternoon event were the AUC Camporee, other upcoming GSC events and new regions were discussed. this years pathfinder DD's were inducted and the advisory volunteers were choosen. workshops like, how to get an A grade at the fair, and pathfinders on the web helped new and old staff to learn the ropes as well was changes and updates being made.
a whooping 60 adventurer leaders and staff turned up for adventurer training on the 6th of february at the conference office to learn about; Safety, Philosophy and History of Adventurers, Adventure programming and Leadership Methods and Adventure Classes.
